Missoula is a city in and the county seat of Missoula County, Montana, United States. The population was 57,053 at the 2000 census The 2008 Census Bureau estimate puts the city's metropolitan area population at 107,320 as of July 1, 2008, making it the second-largest city and metropolitan area in Montana. It is the largest media market in the state. Missoula is the home of the University of Montana. Missoula is the birthplace of Jeannette Rankin (1880–1973), the first woman elected to the U.S. Congress. Missoula is nicknamed the Garden City.
